Mahpar Strikes again!

My good friend Steve Mahpar composed a cool piece for brass sextet recently. He got a few friends together at his place in Pasadena last week and hit record. You'll find an audio link to it HERE. Steve also put up a website for some of his other compositions, which you can find here: mopsmusic.com

Hello 2010

The vocational respite that is January has been a good time for Ali and I to continue planning our wedding in Sonoma, honeymoon in Canada, and fine tune all the general merriment surrounding the big day. All is going well on that front, and we're getting excited as each thing on our list gets checked off. Yesterday's "to-do" was an intensive sangria research night with my parents. Mom and I found a few recipes on epicurious.com last week and she put together a wonderful white that was light and easy, as well as a sweeter and more robust red. Both were delicious! In the midst of our drinking Alison came from behind and slyly secured a Scrabble victory!

This morning, after yet another failed attempt at getting my Dad on Facebook, I managed to get him signed up for a blog. Alison thought that in retirement, my parents would enjoy musing about things, such as bloggers do. Anyhoo, here it is:

We also had a nice time yesterday morning (pre-Sangria) in rehearsal for our friend Marie Sato's masters conducting recital. Marie has picked some great music: Gabrieli's Canzon Duodecimi Toni for brass choir, Mozart's C Minor Serenade, and Milhaud's Creation of the World. If you're interested, the performance is Friday February 19th at 8pm in Cal State Fullerton's Recital Hall.

Other concerts coming up:
Music for film and television
Saturday February 6th at 8pm
San Pedro's Warner Theater

Disneyland's Carnation Plaza
Saturday February 20th
Performance time to be determined

This video is easy to make fun of, but the music is so beautiful...enjoy.
